How to Use the Map to Find Resources

The Lightyear Frontier map becomes much more useful when you pair its Resource Scanner with named Stamps. That matters when the crop you need sits above a river on a cliff path, rather than beside the water. With 1.0 expanding the world and changing resource placement, start in the map menu before heading out.

Use these features to organize your gathering trips:

  • Resource Scanner: Access it through the map menu to help locate resources.
  • Region details: Look through the resource grid to see what an area contains.
  • Named Stamps: Add text to distinguish a crop patch from its access route. Try labels such as “Caroot cliff path” or “Honeybottle river.”
  • Trailer and Farm Animal markers: Use their map positions to keep track of your hauling equipment and animals.

Mark the path up to an elevated patch as well as the patch itself. A location above you can be easy to spot on the map while its entrance remains hidden around the hillside.

The crop routes below cover the Shifting Gears regions. Version 1.0 adds four crops and adjusts resource placement, so use its scanner alongside these terrain landmarks.

Outset Grasslands: Starter Crops and Elevated Patches

Outset Grasslands contains Polyberry, Rabbage, Caroot, and Chromaize. Search the valley and river for the easier patches, then explore the paths leading onto higher ground.

Lightyear Frontier — Outset Grasslands: Starter Crops and Elevated Patches

Polyberry and Rabbage

Look for Polyberry in the small valley near the starting area. There are several patches around this stretch, making it a useful place to begin your crop search.

For Rabbage, follow the river away from the starting area and check the surrounding fields. Keep the river as your reference point while branching into the grass nearby.

Combine those searches into one outing: explore the valley, follow the river, and stamp the patches you want to revisit.

Caroot and Chromaize

If you keep finding the same starter plants, look upward.

Caroot grows on elevated ground, including a patch reached by following a path up a small mountain. That route can be walked without upgrades in Shifting Gears. Another patch sits a short distance from the crash site where you collect your mech.

For Chromaize, cross the river from the starting area and find the path climbing onto higher ground. Follow it up to the crop patch.

Search around the base of a cliff for an approach before trying to climb straight toward a marker.

Pondpitcher

Check the denser forest near the coast for Pondpitcher.

These plants provide water and can help when your farm sits away from a lake. Once a plant’s water is exhausted, cut it down and replant it to grow a replacement. Add a separate Stamp for this patch so it stays distinct from your food crops.

Frost Peak Ridge: Honeybottle and Lumbloom

Frost Peak Ridge adds Honeybottle and Lumbloom to your gathering route, with Rabbage also available in the region.

For Honeybottle, follow the river past the first structure along the route. Search nearby ground as well as the bank; additional clusters appear farther along the river, slightly away from the main path.

For Lumbloom, head up the icy hill and look near a small pond. The plants glow, making them easier to spot at night.

Use separate labels for the river patches and the hilltop pond. Those landmarks give you a clearer return route than a single marker labeled “crops.”

Hexagon Valley: Zappertwig, Chromaize, and Glo Trees

Hexagon Valley’s dense jungle can make navigation awkward. The Shifting Gears routes include an approach through the jungle and another descending from the snowy area.

There is Chromaize beside a path leading upward into the valley, giving you another place to search if you missed it near the starting region.

For Zappertwig, check these two landmarks:

  • The shoreline beside the ancient dock ruins: Travel through the valley toward the outer coast and search around the dock area.
  • The dinosaur skeleton near water: Find the skeleton, then inspect the nearby waterside ground.

Search around bodies of water as you move between those landmarks. Add named Stamps at the patches you find so your next trip has specific destinations.

Collect Glo Fruits while exploring the area, too. In 1.0, Glo Trees produce 15 fruits per cycle, and harvesting Glo Fruits has a chance to grant a sprout. Ripe fruit also glows more strongly than unripe fruit.

Sandswept Highlands

Sandswept Highlands is a desert region filled with mesas, ancient ruins, new crops, and minerals. Its open plains offer room for large endgame farms, while cliffs and ruins make elevation part of resource gathering.

This is late-game territory with tougher Floaters. You also travel here during the final part of the mission to save the colonies.

Use the region’s resource panel and scanner to plan gathering trips, then label the routes between open plains and elevated discoveries. Keep those access points marked as you explore the ruins.

Hollow Marsh

Hollow Marsh sits among the clifftops of Sandswept Highlands. Look for a foggy swamp with blue grass and red water, a sharp visual change from the surrounding desert.

The Starfall Tree is one of its new plants. Seek out the marsh when expanding your tree collection, or explore its swamp setting for a farm location with a bayou feel. Mark your approach through the highlands so you can return to the clifftop area without retracing the whole desert.
