How to Find Eggs in Lightyear Frontier
Lightyear Frontier eggs are your starting point for hatching farm animals, including rare color variants. You can collect abandoned eggs while exploring or get species-specific eggs by feeding wild animals. The 1.0 update, released November 4, 2026, makes hunting easier: eggs can appear before a region is fully restored.
That changes an important rule from Early Access. You no longer need to remove every patch of corruption before searching a biome.
Feed Wild Animals for Species-Specific Eggs
In 1.0, wild animals have a 5% chance to drop their species’ eggs when fed. Feeding also makes them drop their animal resource instead of a random resource from the surrounding region.
Carry fodder when you head out looking for animals. Feed the species you want to raise, then search nearby terrain for abandoned eggs while exploring. The egg drop is a chance, so an unsuccessful feeding does not mean you have chosen the wrong animal.

Where to Search for Abandoned Eggs
Eggs can be tucked behind bushes, fallen logs, and trees. Search the surrounding ground when you reach a promising location instead of checking only one marked point.

These landmarks give you places to begin:
- Crystalhoof eggs: Search the large open field where Crystalhoof roam, particularly along the curved cliff edge.
- Crabling eggs: Check the wooded corner above the starting river. Follow the path up the small embankment and through the trees.
- Shoreline jungle: Search the dense vegetation near the shore facing a small island for rodent eggs.
Use these as search areas rather than exact pickup coordinates. Eggs can appear around a location, and vegetation can hide them even when you are close.
Once you find a productive area, mark it. Version 1.0 lets you add text to map Stamps, so label the location with the egg or animal you found there. Keep separate markers for different search areas instead of relying on memory during a longer collection run.
How to Unlock the Egg Incubator and Hatch Eggs
Diane introduces animal care and the Egg Incubator through her neighbor quests. Advance her tasks until you can build the incubator, then use it to hatch the eggs you collect.

Follow this sequence:
- Progress Diane’s neighbor missions to reach her incubation tasks.
- Build the Egg Incubator when her questline makes it available.
- Place an egg inside and check its incubation time.
- Choose a lens, if you want to influence the hatch.
- Let the required in-game time pass.
Incubation duration differs between eggs. An egg with a three-day timer takes three in-game days, rather than three real-world days.
Older progression instructions place Diane’s outpost unlock at Milestone 6 in Shifting Gears. Version 1.0 moved neighbor unlocks earlier, so follow your current mission and milestone rewards instead of waiting for that older threshold.
Prepare a pen, food, and water while incubation runs. Those are part of caring for the animal after it hatches.
What Incubator Lenses Do
Lenses influence the animal that emerges from an egg. In Shifting Gears, the two lens effects are:
Image: Steam / FRAME BREAK
| Lens | Effect |
|---|---|
| Yellow lens | Increases the chance of an alternate color variant |
| Red lens | Increases the chance of a larger animal |
Choose yellow when collecting different colors, or red when aiming for larger animals. These effects improve your chances; they do not guarantee a particular hatch.
To craft lenses, grind the corresponding crystal into crystal dust, then use the furnace. The Shifting Gears recipe uses one matching crystal dust, one Clear Glass, and one Wood per lens. Yellow Crystal can be found in Hexagon Valley.
Radiant Eggs and Rare Color Variants
Radiant Eggs are golden eggs with a beacon that helps you locate them. They can hatch into different farm animal species and have an increased chance of producing a rare color variant.
The large flying Behemoth drops these golden eggs. Listen for its whale-like call overhead, then look for the egg’s beacon. Version 1.0 reduced how frequently the large flying creature appears, so keep collecting ordinary eggs and feeding wildlife between encounters.
A Radiant Egg’s increased rare-color chance still leaves the result to chance. Collect them when you spot them, even if you are currently hunting one particular species.
Breeding Animals in Version 1.0
You can also expand your ranch through animal breeding, which version 1.0 adds through Diane’s questline. Continue her missions after establishing your incubation setup to unlock that mechanic.
Animal care is more forgiving in this version, too. Farm animals no longer run away when unhappy, and lost animals turn up in Diane’s sanctuary after a day. Check the sanctuary before searching the wilderness for a replacement egg.
