Where to Connect Your Mineral Mining Pipeline

Your Lightyear Frontier mineral extractor pipe setup starts at the Mineral Crusher’s output. That connection carries processed resources back to storage, saving you repeated hauling trips home. Mineral Extractors generate additional mineral deposits nearby; you still harvest the chunks and load the crusher yourself.

Build around this resource flow:

Natural deposit and Mineral Extractors → manually harvested chunks → Mineral Crusher → pipeline → storage

The pipeline handles transportation after crushing. Placing more extractors increases the minerals available to harvest, while placing the crusher nearby keeps the remaining manual work concentrated at the outpost.

To connect the processing end:

  1. Place a Mineral Crusher near your mining area. Leave enough room to approach it while carrying large mineral chunks.
  2. Build a roof over the crusher. Crafting constructs receive an efficiency bonus when their roof requirement is satisfied.
  3. Place receiving storage inside your farm boundary. Resources stored there can be available for crafting and building around your base.
  4. Connect the crusher’s output to the receiving storage. Run the pipeline along an accessible route so you can reach its connections when expanding.
  5. Harvest and load a batch of mineral chunks. Check the destination storage to make sure the processed resources arrive.

Keep farm storage access and automatic crafting separate in your planning. Having ore available when you queue a furnace job saves transportation; continuously feeding a crafting construct requires an automation connection.

Place Extractors Around a Natural Deposit

Mineral Extractors belong near a large natural mineral deposit. They generate additional minerals over time rather than replacing the deposit with a machine that immediately sends ore into a pipe.

Lightyear Frontier — Place Extractors Around a Natural Deposit

Choose a location with enough flat ground around the deposit for construction. Extractors need clearance from the natural node and other obstructions, so a cramped hillside can limit how many fit.

Before committing to the outpost:

  • Clear nearby obstacles that interfere with placement or carrying chunks.
  • Leave access between the growing deposits and your crusher.
  • Fit additional extractors around the node where the terrain allows.
  • Keep the crusher close enough to avoid a long walk with every load.

Four extractors beside one natural deposit create five deposit locations to harvest. That expands the available mining area, but it also means more chunks to carry into the crusher.

Give newly built extractors time to grow their minerals. An extractor placed later than its neighbors can still be developing while the others are ready. Check the deposits themselves before troubleshooting an empty downstream pipeline.

If your outpost requires frequent visits, build a road to it. Roads increase travel speed and reduce movement fuel costs, making the manual harvesting portion easier to maintain.

Use the 1.0 Automation System for Downstream Crafting

The November 4, 2026, 1.0 update changed how storage feeds automated production:

Lightyear Frontier — Use the 1.0 Automation System for Downstream Crafting

  • Automation Pipes replaced Automators for direct connections between storage and crafting constructs.
  • Automation begins at Milestone 4, with more capabilities introduced through progression.
  • One crafting construct can cycle through up to 3 Auto Craft recipes, skipping recipes without the required resources.

You do not need to build an Automator for a new 1.0 production line. Existing Automators remain usable in older saves, which explains why an established farm can still contain them.

For an ore-processing chain, connect a compatible storage output to the crafting construct you want to supply, then configure its Auto Craft recipe. Automation Pipes cost Energy, so include those connections in your power planning.

Hover over storage constructs in the Build Menu to see which have inputs and outputs. Storage Box II, Silo, Silo II, Small Shed, and Storage Shed received outputs in 1.0.

Use the receiving storage’s Resource Filter tab to control what enters it. For a dedicated iron line, set the filter to accept the intended resource. Denied items cannot arrive through pipes or adjacent automatic pickups; trying to place them manually produces a warning.

Keep enough available storage capacity for incoming output. An accepting filter still requires room for the resource.

Fix a Pipeline That Is Not Delivering Ore

Work through the chain from the deposit toward storage:

  1. Check for harvestable minerals. Growing deposits do not supply the crusher until you harvest and move their chunks.
  2. Check the crusher’s loading area. Put mineral chunks into the crusher rather than waiting for extractors to feed it.
  3. Inspect the output connection. Trace the line from the crusher to the receiving storage and check each connection.
  4. Check storage capacity and filters. Free up space and allow the resource the crusher is producing.
  5. Check Energy for Automation Pipes. Include pipe demand when checking the power available to downstream automated crafting.
  6. Lengthen a rejected Automation Pipe segment. Version 1.0 blocks segments that are too short to function and displays an error.

If resources reach storage but your furnace stays idle, inspect the storage-to-furnace connection and its Auto Craft settings. If no resources leave the mining outpost, return to the crusher and check its input and output before rebuilding the downstream network.
